The Programme Rationale

The IM|Sciences Executive programmes are aimed at building capacity of committed and ambitious managers and executives who plan to accelerate their career development whilst continuing full-time employment. Working full-time while studying for an executive programme will allow the candidates to immediately apply new ideas, frameworks and cognitive/reasoning tools that can bring unrivalled combination and richness to the learning experience and competencies. Also, the diversity of the students’ professional experiences and faculty combined with intensive assignments will give students the ability to operate successfully, wherever their career takes them. The proposed programmes will provide a breadth of knowledge across every discipline of business and management and the analytical skills, understanding, confidence and language to influence strategy at all levels of organization where the student works.

Who should choose this programme?

According to Higher Education Commission criteria, candidates with 14 years of schooling and 4 years of job experience are eligible for admissions to these executive programmes. Corporate managers from any industry (manufacturing/ merchandising/ service) along with mid – career managers and executives from non-profit organizations are deemed eligible.

Salient Features of Executive Programme:

Eligibility: Fourteen years of schooling & a minimum of four years of job experience

Awards:  The institute should award a certificate, diploma or a degree as per following scheme;

Certificate in Business Administration
On successful completion of semester I or after qualifying at least three courses in the first semester (9-15 credits)

Diploma in Business Administration
On Successful completion of semester I & II (First two semesters 30 credits)

Executive MBA Degree
On Successful completion and qualification of 66 credits

Exemption Policy
Candidates may be allowed exemptions in the EMBA and Diploma programmes from the credits earned in the certificate programme. Similarly A diploma holder may be exempted from the degree credits. A duration of four years is proposed to complete EMBA using the exemption route through a diploma or certificate.

Diploma in Business Administration Programme Details

For a post graduate diploma business professionals are offered a two semester intensive programme stretching a year. The programme provides an enabling ladder to business personnel in acquiring cutting-edge quantitative decision making techniques and at the same time be able to better understand market dynamics. Business professionals who would like to work at their own pace for EMBA would get the opportunity of registering in EMBA after DBA.

Executive MBA Programme Details

Courses studied in first semester will provide the students the required fundamental skills and knowledge to pursue any postgraduate qualification in business administration. Second semester will provide a range of management fundamentals and processes. As a general manager, it is essential to understand these key disciplines in order to interact intelligently and effectively with other members of the organisation and to successfully execute responsibilities. Semester 3 will develop the ability to work as a manager in a modern organisation through integrating a wide range of contemporary tools, techniques and theories relevant both to day­to­day management and strategic change; the final semester would culminate the entire taught part of the programme by allowing students to conduct an in-depth study in chosen area of specialization. This will be offered over Semester 3 & 4.

Project: The Executive MBA projects will examine in depth a managerial, organisational or environmental issue, and will allow student to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired during studies. The projects are an integral part of the Executive MBA programme and must be completed satisfactorily before a student is eligible to graduate. It provides an ideal opportunity to build on what students would have already learned. The primary aim is to reinforce learning in an area of your choice, and you will be encouraged to undertake projects within organisations (preferably your employer organisation). When possible, students will be assisted in identifying appropriate organisations or contacts. Each Project Report will be 13,000-16,000 words.

PD Workshops (Personality Development workshops) will be a zero credit hour activity but compulsory to attend. It will be a continuous activity over the two year period of the programme. These workshops will be held in key business skills, such as negotiation, presentation, motivation and leadership, to maximize students’ overall leadership potential.

Phases in the MBA Executive Programme:

  1. The Foundation phase studied in Semester 1, which will give the students the fundamental skills and knowledge they need to pursue any postgraduate qualification in business administration;
  2. The Learning Manager phase taken in Semester 2, will provide a range of management fundamentals and processes. As a general manager, it is essential that you understand these key disciplines in order to interact intelligently and effectively with other members of your organisation and to successfully execute your responsibilities;
  3. The Developing Manager phase will be offered in the semester 3 and will develop your ability to work as a manager in a modern organisation through integrating a wide range of contemporary tools, techniques and theories relevant both to day­to­day management and strategic change;
  1. The Specialization phase would culminate the entire taught part of the programme by allowing students to study in depth an area of specialization of their choice. This will be offered over Semester 4.
