The purpose of the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Degree Program is to prepare students to enter the public sector as managers and leaders. The two-year MPA degree is a professional degree designed to prepare both pre and mid-career professionals and administrators for supervisory, analytical support and policy-making positions in public sector agencies, and non-profit organizations, at local, provincial and federal levels & stresses sound preparation in a wide range of administrative competencies.
As a professional program, emphasis is placed upon learning concepts, processes and techniques that are associated with management of public organizations. The program blends theory with the practical dimensions of administration and encourages a broadened academic and professional perspective. It is multidisciplinary program combining rigorous training in analytical and quantitative methods with an emphasis on economic, social and political policy and practice.
The program aims at developing professionals who will perform effectively as administrators, analysts, general managers, and leaders in public sector and public-oriented organizations. It aspires to widen the knowledge base and skills of students in the theory and application of new technologies now in use in order to access, analyze, and utilize information that is pertinent to the field of Public Administration. The program endeavors to strengthen students’ research and analytical skills, enabling them to perform problem-solving activities across a broad spectrum of professional disciplines. It will also Program Objectives built capacity of students to conceptualize and interpret the social, economic and political environment in which public administration takes place.
The basic requirement for admission to the MPA program is BBA, B.Com, BA, BSc, HND (Edexcel) or an equivalent degree. However, preference shall be given to fresh graduates or those who have completed their bachelor degree examination in the last two academic sessions.
Those who have secured at least 2nd division with 45% marks at the graduate level are eligible to apply. Qualifying the admission test and interview is compulsory. A candidate scoring less than 40% marks in the test shall stand disqualified for admission.
For the Master’s degree in Public Administration a candidate will be required to complete the course work of 60-66 credit hours (including Research
Dissertation / Project / Internship 2 courses in lieu of research.
